Lack of self-confidence can be one of the main blockages stopping you from living the joyful, successful and fulfilling life you deserve.

How many times have you wanted to try a new activity like going to a dance class and you have thought that other people in the class would be better and you stayed at home? How many times have you dreamed of having a better job or starting your business but you haven’t taken action because you didn’t believe you could do it? How many times have you wanted to speak up for yourself but you haven’t because you were scared of what other people might think of you?

Hello and welcome to a new episode of The Positive Mindset Tribe, this is the 12th episode already! I can’t believe this is already the 12th episode, we have covered many topics related to having a positive and healthy mindset, we have talked about self-love, manifestation, self-sabotage and limiting beliefs, how to connect with your intuition, how to stop negative thoughts, the female cycle and the impact it can have in our mindset and I CAN’T BELIEVE I still haven’t covered one of my favourite topics – how to transform self-doubt into self-confidence and self-belief!

And the reason I can’t believe it’s taken me so long it’s because in my coaching and healing sessions 80-90% of the time, my clients come to me wanting to build their confidence, wanting to get rid of the self-doubt, wanting to believe in themselves more. So this is a huge topic, very important one.

At the end of the day if you don’t believe in yourself, no one will. And lack of self-confidence is one of the main reasons that stop us from living the life we want to live. How many times have you wanted to try a new activity like going to a dance class and you have thought that other people in the class would be better and you stayed at home? How many times have you dreamed of having a better job or starting your business but you haven’t taken action because you didn’t believe you could do it? How many times have you wanted to speak up for yourself but you haven’t because you were scared of what other people might think of you?

Confidence is not about arrogance, is not about looking good, it’s not about being loud, CONFIDENCE is a deep belief and trust in one’s self. But we will talk about this in more detail.

WHAT SELF-CONFIDENCE IS REALLY ABOUT.

Self confidence is about….

  • Knowing our inner resources, not relying on others or external circumstances
  • Knowing your self-worth and celebrating yourself, this is very different from being arrogant or egotistic.
  • Owning your power and taking responsibility, leaving the victim role behind

HOW LIFE CHANGES WHEN YOU BELIEF IN YOURSELF

Why is self-confidence so important? Because when you are confident, when you belief in yourself, when you belief you have the resources to deal with anything that might come your way, when you know how to overcome your fears and you are in your power, your life changes completely. You become a magnet for love, for joy, for success. You have better relationships, more success in your career, people can feel if you believe in yourself or not!

When you are confident you don’t think about pleasing others, you don’t live based on someone else’s expectations, you make decisions that are aligned with your values, that is what confidence is all about!

So let’s take a few moments for self-reflection here – If you were the most confident version of yourself, if you believed in yourself 100%, if you trusted, if you knew deeply that you have all the resources you need…

HOW WOULD YOUR LIFE BE DIFFERENT?

WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING DIFFERENTLY?

Would you apply for that job you have been dreaming of?

Would you date someone else?

Would you try a new dance class?

Would you be making different decisions?

What would you say no to?

What would you do more of?

What would you do less of?

 

LOW CONFIDENCE TRIGGERS

Other people’s opinion. The people we surround ourselves with is so important, because as human beings is in our instinct to do whatever is necessary to be liked, to be accepted, to not be rejected, it is our survival instinct. So we need to be very careful and mindful of the people we spend our time with because it can have a huge impact on your confidence. And remember, someone else’s opinion of you, says more about them than you. People then to project their fears and insecurities onto others, so if someone is criticising you, doesn’t approve of what you do, tells you what you should and shouldn’t do, it doesn’t have anything to do with you but the vision they have of the world.

Social Media & News. Avoid at all costs, I have covered this in other episodes where I talked in detail about having a positive, healthy mindset. No one shares their miseries in social media, so don’t think that because someone is posting about how successful they are, sharing pictures of their holidays or their achievements they are in a better place than you, because that is a window display. And anyway, life is not a competition against others, so focus on yourself and avoid any content or platforms that trigger fear, or anger or self-doubt.

Bad Habits. This is kind of a vicious circle, because bad habits can make us feel bad but it is normally when we feel low or insecure than we might fall back into bad habits. For example, checking your phone first thing in the morning instead of doing some connection/well-being/healthy routine. Eating junk food, especially a lot of sugar affects the brain, the fight or flight system, it makes us feel sluggish and bloated physically and that translates into feeling low emotionally. So I would strongly recommend that you review your habits and add some new healthy ones like meditation, journaling, practising gratitude, spending more time in nature…

Inner critic & limiting beliefs. I’m saving this one for last because who is the worst enemy of our self-confidence? Most of the time it’s OURSELVES!! Our old beliefs, programs, that annoying inner voice full of self-doubt, judgement and criticism which I refer to as the inner critic. We can be our worst enemies, we can be so harsh on ourselves… Recently in a workshop I did, we did an exercise for the inner critic where we drew it, wrote down all the messages and looked for evidence that these messages are not true. And this is something you can do anytime you need, and when you finish, you can do whatever you feel like with that piece of paper, you can break it, throw it away, burn it, or even put it in the freezer! People who don’t want you to change. This is also a big one, because when you start doing the inner work, when you heal your past experiences, the negative thoughts and the inner critic start to fade away, you believe more in yourself, you become more empowered and make different decisions, one you’ve overcome the resistance, normally what happens is that people who are close to you will have resistance to your change. I remember when I started my personal development journey some people thought that I was weird, that I was changing in a negative way. When I stopped going out for drinks, when I became more interested in meditation, spirituality, when I was making different decisions to take care of myself, as I was setting more boundaries, people around showed resistance. They didn’t like these changes or they didn’t resonate anymore with the person I was becoming. So please please please if you are in a process of transformation, deep change, spiritual awakening, ignore the people who say things like ‘you are crazy, you are weird, you didn’t used to be like that’, because that means they are not growing with you and they won’t support you in you process. Not on purpose, they’re intentions might be good, but sometimes you’ll see that you will lose some friendships as you change because you won’t be aligned anymore. But as you grow, as you change, you will attract people that are aligned with you, you will find your tribe, people who are in your highest interest.

 

THE BEST EXERCISE I KNOW FOR A BOOST OF CONFIDENCE

We have talked a lot about things that trigger low confidence, how we need to deal with our inner critic and clear any old beliefs, heal past experiences, now what can we do when we need a boost of confidence?

This exercise is so simple yet one of my favourite ones, I call it the power list.

Grab pen and paper, and set a timer for at least 15 minutes.

Start writing about your skills, positive traits, strengths, challenges you have overcome, lessons you have learnt, talents, etc.

Don’t stop writing until the timer is over! If you run out of ideas, expand on the ones you’ve written already. Think of the smallest things, they all count!

 

That was a lot of information, if there is something I would like you to take from this episode, is that you already have all the resources and everything you need to be successful within you. It’s already within you. Sometimes we forget, and painful experiences or old beliefs can get in the way. Don’t be afraid to let them come to your awareness, don’t be afraid to heal them because this is the best present you can give to yourself. It is a process, so be patient and treat yourself with compassion. If you want to improve your confidence, believe in yourself more, know that this is not something that happens overnight. I’ve been doing inner work for many years and will continue to do it until I die. Because there is always something to heal, something to improve. When I work with my clients I always tell them this is a process. When we work together we go deep to heal all the blockages, the old beliefs, the fears, the insecurities, we work on unleashing the inner power, the inner wisdom that is already there. But it is not a one-off. I remember doing a lot of energy healing sessions with my fellow healers or when I have worked with a therapist and I never felt wow I have done a session and the day after my life was completely different. But many times I have had sudden realisations or I have noticed changes in the way I behave, the way I think, the way I feel , the decisions I make. And it is incredible how life can change, how life can flow, how much joy you can experience when you heal and transform yourself, when you do the inner work, it is the only way.

So I would strongly recommend you overcome the resistance and start going deep within to get rid of all the baggage and start unleashing your power, your wisdom, your purpose.
