The inner child is that part of ourselves that carries our essence and inner treasures, but when it’s been hurt it can also carry pain, fear or anger.

Healing and embracing the inner child is truly transformational work that can help you achieve a sense of balance, inner peace, well-being, joy and fulfillment. It is beautiful work when done with the right guidance!

Hello my beautiful souls, welcome to another episode of The Positive Mindset Tribe!

This episode is going to be all about the inner child, which is beautiful and powerful work that can help you feeling more balanced, more at peace, it can help with anxiety, mood swings, and just getting a deeper sense of well-being, joy and fulfilment.


In this episode I will be covering:

  • What the inner child is and why it is so important to listen to that part of ourselves.
  • How to heal the wounds of the inner child.
  • How to unleash the inner treasures of the inner child – the innocence, playfulness and creativity we should never lose.
  • Effective techniques to integrate the beauty of the inner child.

Now let’s get started with today’s topic – the inner child


First of all what is the inner child? I like to think about the inner child as that part of ourselves that carries our essence, that is pure, innocent, authentic, before the programming from parenting and schooling starts, it is full of creativity, playfulness and talents.

Now, very often what happens is that as we grow up we get hurt. Actually I don’t know anyone who has never been hurt, who has never been scared or sad or has only experienced joy. And this is fine, cause this is what life is about: learning, and overcoming challenges, and if our life were perfect, we wouldn’t grow.

So the inner child, alongside with all those treasures I mentioned at the beginning, can carry the pain, the fear, the sadness, the trauma of those painful experiences.

And this is how we absorb a lot of programming and beliefs from our parents, other parental figures, school…And some of them maybe were useful to survive or to protect ourselves at one point but as adults they might no longer be serving us. This is where all that disempowering self-talk comes from, with messages like ‘you are not important’, ‘you are aa failure’, ‘you don’t deserve this or that’, etc.



So when the inner child carries strong emotions from the wounds of the past, wat happens is that as adults, sometimes a random situation might cause a very strong emotional reaction and that is just the inner child being triggered and needing some attention. One example – my dad left when I was a teenager, and for many years I carried within me a very deep abandonment wound. So in relationships, romantic relationships or friendships I was always very alert of any signs that might indicate them leaving me. And if I perceived any signs as a threat, my inner child would get very triggered and I would feel terrified about being abandoned again. Obviously when this happened I had no idea this was what was going on, I just thought that love was difficult, that love hurts, I can only see it clearly now that I have healed that part of my inner child and I can see things with perspective.

So every time you experience a strong emotional reaction, know that you are not just going crazy, you are not dramatic, there is nothing wrong with you, it is just that the situation might have triggered fear or sadness or anger in your inner child.

Now how do you heal the inner child? Well, imagine if you are a mother one of your kids comes to you feelings sad, or scared, or if you don’t have kids one of your nephews or any kid you find adorable.

What would you do? Take a few second to think about how you will help them.


Would you hug them? Walk with them hand in hand? Reassure them? Tell them that they are safe, that you are here for them? Maybe you will tell them positive things about them.

But I know you would treat them with love, compassion and kindness, right?

Well, there you go, the same thing you would do for another child, that’s what you need to do with your inner child. That’s how you need to treat that part of yourself.

I know this is easier said than done, but honestly, having an inner dialogue with your inner child can be extremely healing and many problems like lack of self-confidence, mood swings, lacking self-belief or self-worth, even deep anxiety situations can be solved by doing work with the inner child, I have seen it again and again in my clients.

At the end of the episode I will be sharing some specific techniques you can use to heal the inner child.

Now, although healing the wounds of the inner child is extremely important and by the way, when done properly with the right guidance, it is really beautiful work, it doesn’t need to be scary.

But I see a lot of people focusing only on healing the inner child, clearing, removing beliefs, which is necessary, but we can’t forget that the inner child carries all those inner treasures, our essence and we also need to do active work to fully integrate these treasures.

It is like a garden, yes you need to do the weeding first for other plants to grow, but if you only do the weeding, if you don’t put any energy on planting new seeds and watering these seeds, you won’t see any plants or any flowers blossoming


So how do we do this? One of the things I’m going to suggest is that you spend some time thinking about what you enjoyed doing as a child. What you wanted to be, when you were in your element, what were you doing? What would make you lose track of time? What were your dreams, your vision of the world?

Ask your parents or siblings if you don’t remember because this can give you really valuable information.

When we are kids, we don’t think about what we are supposed to do, we just do whatever feels natural. So maybe you wanted to be a ballerina but your parents told you that you wouldn’t make any money and you ended up becoming a lawyer and you feel so frustrated because it is not aligned with your calling, with your soul.

As we grow up we become way too serious and we forget that  life is not about surviving and struggling, life is also about flowing, doing activities that bring us joy, pleasure, those hobbies that make us disconnect from the world, that help us stay in the here and now.

So spend some time reflecting on what your natural skills were, what you enjoyed doing, look at some pictures to refresh your memory and add more of those activities to your life.



  • With regards to healing the inner child, every time that you experience a strong emotional trigger, go to a quiet place, close your eyes and imagine you are talking to your inner child, visualise her with as many details as you can. Ask her how she is feeling, what she needs from you, tell her some comforting words, give her some love. You can do this every day before going to bed, to give yourself a bit of self-love, calm down any emotions that might have come up during the day, it will help you sleep and if you are consistent, you are going to feel much more balanced, more connected to yourself, at peace, it is beautiful to connect with the inner child and it is transformational work.
  • The other side of the coin would be to unleash the creativity and playfulness of your inner child, so spend some time bringing those memories back, and start doing more activities that bring you joy, go a dance or painting workshop where you can channel your creativity, this will bring you so much joy and fulfilment.
